JUSTIN CARFAGNINI’S 50 SKILLS
While chasing tarpon in Tabasco, Mexico, Jay Johnson decided to capture a camera angle no one else was using. Just like that, the “Johnson Cam” was born. Tarpon were practically jumping into Paco Marroquín’s boat just for a chance to be on camera.

To say you know Justin Carfagnini is to be deeply in denial about everything he is. But let’s try.

First, some hard-hitting facts pulled directly from Carfagnini’s LinkedIn page. He was born and raised in Illinois. He has degrees in Electrical Maintenance, Improv, Comedy Writing and “Clown/Physical Comedy.” This all tracks. He’s worked as both a Director of Security and a Crop Underwriting Specialist. He’s involved with Toastmasters International, with Zurich North America and is a FAA Part 107 Certified Drone Pilot. The “Skills” section of the bio topped out at 50, and Carfagnini happily used every slot available. “They wouldn’t let me add any more,” Carfagnini says.

In 2017, Carfagnini (or Carf, as he is known to friends and associates) was in St. Paul, MN, for an interview for the previously mentioned Crop Underwriter Specialist position (spoiler alert: he got the job) and literally stumbled upon our fly shop (Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop, RIP). To be fair, “stumbling” was a common way of finding it—the location was weird. Carf was interviewing in Minnesota so he could “be closer to fish.” Apparently, no one had told him Lake Michigan had fish. Chicago’s loss was our gain.
