From Trout Unlimited: "For over a century, Pickell’s Dam prevented threatened California South-Central Coastal steelhead from reaching intact habitat and cold water in the headwaters of Little Arthur Creek, a key tributary to the Pajaro River. Now, with the help of TU’s Tim Frahm, this migration barrier is gone.
TU partnered with the Santa Clara Valley Water District to remove the dam, building on our previous work together to secure permanent stream flow upstream of the concrete barrier. The reconnection of Little Arthur Creek depended on the support and work of California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Resources Legacy Fund, NOAA Fisheries and the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and builds on years of dedicated volunteer work in the basin by the San Jose Fly Casters, Santa Cruz Fly Fishing Club and Trout Unlimited’s Steinbeck Country Chapter.
Our new film is a celebration of free-flowing rivers, the resiliency of California wild steelhead, and the partnerships restoring their home streams."
